Rules for the Sheep Show & Sale

1)
The 2008 Shepherds' Extravaganza will be conducted and managed by Western Washington Sheep and Fleece Shows, Inc. (WWSFS).

2) The show and sale will be held April 17-20, 2008 at the Western Washington Fairgrounds in Puyallup, Washington. Entries must be in place by 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 17, 2008.

3) Entry and payment of entry fees are due by March 1, 2008. Refunds will not be made on withdrawn entries after the entry deadline.

4) Entry fees are $10.00 on all rams and ewes. Wews with suckling lambs are on entry and may not be sold separately. All sales will be by private treaty.

5) The sheep pen area may not be used to sell craft or wool items.

6) All animals consigned are intended for breeding and must be purebred and registered, except Natural Colored entries that are not registered with another purebred association and must be from registered flocks with owners in good standing with NCWGA. Natural Colored entries are to have ear tags with the exhibitor's NCWGA flock number. Natural Colored sheep that are registered with a purebred organization need not have NCWGA flock numbers. Purebred sheep must have registration certificates and registration tags in their ears, as required by breed associations. Registration certificates must be delivered to the Sheep Show Chairperson by 12:00 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2008.

7) Only those animals that have lamb's teeth will be presented as lambs. If weaned lambs are offered for sale, they must be 2 months old or at least 50 pounds. Lambs must be born after September 1, 2007. Yearlings may have two year old teeth. Aged rams and ewes shall be under 5 years old and be in good show condition. Ewes with suckling lambs are one entry and may not be sold separately. Suckling lambs shall be able to be registered.

8) All animals will be inspected by an inspection committee for disease and external parasites. Animals showing signs of disease or parasites shall be removed from the fairgrounds.

9) All sheep must have Federal Scrapie tags or tattoos in the ears to be eligible for this show and sale. No exceptions! Suffolk and Hampshire rams must have proof of 1R at codon 171 if entering Washington state.

10) All sheep on the grounds will be held at owner's risk and ownership will pass to the buyer at the time of sale.

11) All animals shall be removed from the fairgrounds at the close of the fair. Sold animals may leave early once permission is granted by an Extravaganza Officer.

12) The show will be an INFORMATIONAL and EDUCATIONAL SHOW. The Sheep Commentator will not be ranking animals. All breeds will be categorized as: meat breeds, wool breeds, Natural Colored sheep. Each category will be brought into the ring at the same time. The Commentator will compare and contrast the breeds present, pointing out desirable characteristics of each breed to assist the audience and buyers in how to choose animals. The show will be on the afternoon of Sunday, April 20, 2008 to educate the public and to show your sheep. Participation is required.

13) Deviation from any of these rules will result in the consignor not being invited back the following year.

14) The sale of animals is private treaty and thus any guarantees concerning breeding soundness must be negotiated between buyer and consignor. WWSFS, Inc. assumes no responsibilities in this regard and is not liable in the event of problems.
